Sri Lankan Spice Expo – 2026 held at Sahas Uyana, Kandy, under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lal Kantha.
The Sri Lankan Spice Expo – 2026, organized by the Department of Export Agriculture, was held yesterday (16th) at Sahas Uyana, Kandy, under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lal Kantha. This exhibition provided an opportunity for entrepreneurs engaged in the spice industry to showcase their products, to receive guidance in resolving issues related to spice production and marketing, to share the business experiences of successful entrepreneurs, and to gain new technical knowledge.
Joining this occasion, the Minister expressed the following views.
“The economic condition of those involved in the spice sector is good. Farmers and entrepreneurs engaged in export crop cultivation are economically stronger when compared with those who cultivate other crops.
At present, the Department of Export Agriculture is intervening and working to bring farmers and entrepreneurs together. Within our program called ‘Export Agri Mahima’, we aim to give a unique identity to a single area. Under this program, we hope to introduce two export crops to a selected area. We create areas based primarily on two export crops. Then anyone can be connected to that place.
We want to build up a generation from among you who can work directly with foreign markets, without going through middlemen. We are making an effort to find foreign markets through our overseas ambassadors. We are working to build a better economy than what exists now for those involved in this field. Don’t have any doubts about that. We need to develop more entrepreneurs in this field. An entrepreneur is someone who takes on a challenge and works through it.
