Awarding of Appointment Letters to the Technical Officers of the Department of Agrarian Development

Appointment letters were awarded to Technical Officers of the Department of Agrarian Development yesterday (26th) at the Ministry of Agriculture auditorium, with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lal Kantha, and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Namal Karunaratne.

Delivering the welcome address, the Commissioner General of the Department of Agrarian Development, Dhammika Ranatunga, noted that public expectations are complex and that officers must work efficiently and with understanding. The Secretary of the Ministry, D.P. Wickramasinghe, stated that fulfilling the public’s requests through the public service are a very important matter and that officers should act with dedication for that purpose.

Addressing the newly appointed officers, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunaratne, expressed his views.

“One major problem we have is the shortage of technical officers. The current government is following a policy of strengthening the public service.

Government institutions have only minimal facilities. Those facilities must be improved. An environment must be created in which people are drawn to the public service willingly. Then only, we can get good public service from officers.

Those of you receiving appointments today will have to work with people who work with the earth. Connect closely with those people. Then you will be motivated to go beyond the call of duty.”

The officers of the Department of Agrarian Development, and the newly appointed officers and their relatives, also joined the event.
