A Special Discussion on Digitization of Lands

A special discussion regarding the digitization (networking) of all lands in Sri Lanka was held at the Govijana Mandiraya of the Ministry of Agriculture. The session was chaired by Mr. K.D. Lal Kantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation.

This digitization (networking) initiative is considered a vital milestone for streamlining key functions such as issuing land deeds, obtaining extracts of land registers, and showcasing state lands to prospective investors. Attention was also focused on integrating the current government data system with this land digitization system that is intended to be launched.

During the meeting, the Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation emphasized that attention should be focused on allocating state lands for investment opportunities as expeditiously as possible to provide benefits to the public.

Attention was also directed towards integrating data obtained from land mapping of the Department of Survey into this centralized database.

The Minister instructed officials to complete the project within this year and implement it in a manner that ensures the public reaps its benefits. The event was attended by the Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, several Additional Secretaries, and officials of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
