A special program by the government to supply fuel required for agricultural activities

While harvesting of the 2025/26 Maha season crops is still ongoing in some parts of the island, land preparation for paddy cultivation in the 2026 Yala season has already begun in other areas. Although the government introduced a fuel quota system effective from March 15, a special program has been arranged by the government to ensure that fuel required for paddy harvesting machinery, as well as for land preparation for Yala season paddy cultivation, is provided to farmers without delay and as needed.

Accordingly, it has been decided that information on farmers requiring fuel for harvesting or land preparation will be transmitted to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation through the data system of the Department of Agrarian Development, and that fuel will be provided to the respective farmers in quantities recommended by the Department of Agrarian Development from the fuel station nearest to the location of their cultivation. This decision was made at a meeting held under the patronage of Minister of Power and Energy, Engineer Kumara Jayakody.
