Arrangements have been made to open the second zone of small animal habitat, animal breeding conservation and protection centre of vulnerable birds at Safari Garden, Rediyagama in the Hambantota district.
The opening ceremony will be chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera. Mrs.Chandra Herath, Secretary of the Ministry of Wildlife, Mr.Chandana Sooriyabandara, Director General of the Dept. of Zoological Gardens with several officials attended the Ceremony.
An area of about 500 acres have been allocated for Safari Garden of Ridiyagama in which 13 zones were established for various types of animals. Of which around 200 acres have been developed by constructing administrative buildings, animal hospital, sale outlets, vehicle parks and visitor-facilities.
These animal zones spread over large area which include 35-acre African Lion Zone, 80-acre plant eating animal zone and 54-acre Asian Elephant and Bengali Tiger Zone.
The zone which will be opened tomorrow consist of three zones in which small plant eating animals (such as Deer species like stag-deer and Meeminna) are living. It also consisst of a zone for children to entertain with various types of pets.
A breeding conservation centre has also been constructed, visiting of which will not be allowed, but giving priority for feeding and photographing of animals.
