Performance Incentive Awards Ceremony of Milco was held under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, K.D. Lalkantha

The performance incentive awards ceremony was held yesterday (31st ) at the Narahenpita Milco office premises with the aim of recognizing the Milco staff who achieved excellent performance by meeting the institution’s highest sales targets under the Highland brand and recording a historic profit. Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lalkantha, participated as the chief guest.

Milco has achieved a profit of Rs. 1,490 million by October 2025. This is the highest profit obtained in Milco’s history. Plans have been made to distribute a portion of the earned profit as an incentive among dairy farmers. Additionally, plans have been made to provide free dairy farmer life insurance coverage to 15,000 dairy farmers in the year 2026. The year 2025 has become the year with the highest sales revenue in Milco’s history.

Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K.D. Lalkantha, expressed his views on this occasion.

When the 2025 budget was presented, people asked what the policy of this budget was. The content of this budget is economic democracy. The people of our country need to be involved in work. They should receive a fair share of the economic activities they are involved in. What belongs to one person cannot go to another person. What belongs to another person cannot go to yet another person. This is economic democracy. Milco has that economic democracy.

What Milco is doing today is parallel to our national economic policy. It fits exactly. This is work that should be appreciated. What the institution earns should be shared among everyone.

In the past, what we did was set targets and discuss them collectively. This time, the national targets committee discusses them. The responsibility of achieving those targets is assigned to the head of the institution. From next year onwards, we will operate in this manner within our Ministry. The people have given the government the power to govern.

The task that Milco has accomplished today is an example for other institutions as well.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. Namal Karunaratne, also expressed his views.

Today is a special day for Milco. The debts that Milco had to pay have now been paid off. Only a small amount remains to be paid. Milco has now obtained the largest profit margin in history.

A group of people including Mr. Hemajeeva Gotabhaya, Chairman of Milco, and Mrs. Palika Fernando, Additional Secretary of the Livestock Division, participated in this occasion.
