Opportunity from the Ministry of Agriculture to Report Crop Damage
A special statement regarding notification of crop damage was made today (02nd) by Mr. D.P. Wickremasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation.
This special media statement was issued today due to the adverse weather conditions that prevailed throughout Sri Lanka in recent days and the Ministry of Agriculture and all departments under the Ministry of Agriculture are working urgently under the government’s leadership to address the damage suffered by the farming community engaged in agriculture and to take necessary steps to restore agricultural activities. What we primarily need is to collect accurate data on the damaged farmlands. Gathering information on damages to paddy cultivation and all other crops has become the main task at this time.
In this regard, since the regional officers who usually participate in this task have been severely affected by the disaster, we expect the support of farmers to obtain this information immediately through several methods. If you have internet facilities, you can go to the Agrarian.lk website, and under crop damage registration, information is available in all three languages. In this manner, the respective farmer together with family members can quickly submit this information.
If that is not possible, you can seek the assistance of the Agricultural Research and Production Assistant serving in the area, and he has the ability to provide this information. If that is also not possible, you can go to any Agrarian Service Center and the necessary facilities have been provided to quickly give us that information with the help of the officers present there. If there is any difficulty in obtaining those facilities as well, that information can be presented to us through the Agrarian Development District Office.
If it is difficult to provide information through all four methods, a special unit has been established in our Ministry under the Hotline 1918, the Agricultural Disaster Relief Service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, which is now operational. You can directly call that number and inform that office established by the Ministry about your crop damage. We will quickly forward the information received to the relevant divisions to provide the necessary compensation for crop damage currently operated through the Agrarian Insurance Board, to calculate the damage to other crops and take the necessary next steps, and to carry out the necessary actions to quickly restore these cultivations. Therefore, we kindly expect your prompt response in this regard.
