Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lalkantha inspected the Mahaberiyathenna NLDB farm.

The government has focused special attention to various sectors related to the livestock industry in order to bring it to a more efficient and improved state. One special aspect of this is the development of NLDB farms. For this reason, the farm located in the Digana Mahaberiyathenna area, which is a special farm, was inspected by Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lalkantha.

The NLDB also operates a sales outlet there with its products, and a Coffee Shop is also maintained targeting foreign tourists. The objective is to promote a coffee variety that is unique only to Sri Lanka in the world. The Minister’s attention was focused on matters that need to be done from the government’s side to further improve these varieties and attract tourists, and discussions were held with officials regarding this.

The Minister also visited the sheep sheds and inspected the condition of them after Cyclone Ditwah. Although there was some impact from the cyclone, no animals were harmed, and discussions were held with the Heads of the institution about increasing the number of animals and raising farm income. The Minister stated that discussions should be held with officials regarding the recruitment of new employees and obtaining all necessary support from the government side to increase the number of sheds and increase the number of animals, and that the ministry should be informed. Several officials of the farm’s management division and the Ministry of Agriculture participated in this occasion.
