Introduction

Welcome to the Agriculture Development Division, a core branch of the Ministry and directly works with the Department of Agriculture to modernizing Sri Lanka’s agricultural landscape, empowering local farming communities and ensuring national food security. Our division works closely with provincial authorities, district directors, and local institutions to build a resilient and self-reliant agricultural sector.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Project Oversight & Development: We manage and supervise vital agricultural development projects funded by domestic resources, ensuring that public investments directly benefit our farmers and the rural economy.
  • National Food Security: We proudly steer the National Food Security Program and specialized crop diversification projects to ensure a stable, sustainable food supply for the nation.
  • Data-Driven Decisions: We oversee the collection, analysis, and maintenance of comprehensive agricultural data and statistics, helping policy-makers make informed choices for the future of farming.
  • Collaboration & District Support: Agriculture is a team effort. We carry out coordination with Provincial Ministries of Agriculture, Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority and guide District Directors of Agriculture to execute annual crop production plan successfully.
  • Our Commitment Guided by the leadership of the Ministry's Secretary, our division is committed to enhancing productivity, and preserving sustainable agricultural practices to feed our nation today with protect our resources for tomorrow.
