A special discussion on the 2025 progress review and 2026 targets of the Land Commissioner General’s Department was held today (19th) at the Ministry of Lands under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, K.D. Lalkantha.

At this occasion, the Land Commissioner General of the Land Commissioner General’s Department drew the Minister’s attention to the targets to be achieved during this year. Special focus has been placed this year on the digitization of land records and the improvement of the e-Slims system. The current issues within the Land Commissioner General’s Department are a shortage of staff and limited office space. It was pointed out that recruitments will be carried out to address the staff shortage, and that the fourth floor of the Mihikatha Medura building of the Ministry of Lands is expected to be constructed expeditiously as a solution to the limited space. A proposal was also put forward that it would be more appropriate to introduce an incentive scheme to address the low attendance of officers at the institution due to various issues.

Joining the occasion, the Minister noted that land issues cause significant mental stress and that they also obstruct the development of the country. The Minister further emphasized that a process to resolve land-related issues swiftly is therefore necessary.

Subsequent to his participation in this discussion, Minister Lalkantha inspected various divisions of the Ministry of Lands.
