Progress review of institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture was held under the patronage of Mr. K.D. Lal Kantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation.
Progress review of institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture was held yesterday (23rd) at the Ministry of Agriculture, under the patronage of Mr. K.D. Lal Kantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation. At this meeting, the heads of the respective institutions informed the Minister of the financial and physical progress of the institutions and projects under the Ministry of Agriculture.
At this meeting, the Smallholder Agribusiness and Resilience Project (SARP) first presented its progress. Although the project had planned to rehabilitate 200 tanks, only 184 tanks have been rehabilitated so far. The project benefits a large number of beneficiaries by supporting cultivations such as hybrid chili, hybrid tomato, watermelon and mushrooms.
Another project being implemented under the Ministry of Agriculture is the Integrated Rurban Development and Climate Resilience Project (IRDCRP). This project is valued at USD 120 million. The project is implemented by covering 12 districts of the island.
The progress of another project, the Climate Resilience Multi-Phase Programmatic Approach (CResMPA), was also presented at this meeting. This project has achieved a physical target of 77% and financial progress of 75%. The progress of the Knuckles Project was also presented at this meeting. This project is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
The progress of the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP) was also highlighted at this meeting. The progress achieved by the Department of Agriculture during this year was also discussed at this event.
It was revealed at the progress review meeting that the Department of Agrarian Development has achieved 92% financial progress and 99% physical progress. The progress of the Department of Export Agriculture was also examined at this meeting. The “Apanayana Krushi Mahima” programme is the key programme implemented by that institution this year.
At this meeting, the progress of the Department of Cinnamon Development and the Paddy Marketing Board was also reviewed. The Department of Irrigation and the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka made presentations regarding their financial and physical progress. Representing the livestock sector, the National Livestock Development Board and Milco (Pvt) Ltd presented their progress.
The Secretary to the Ministry, along with heads of institutions, attended this occasion.
