Milco Sales Representative Appreciation Ceremony was held under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K. D. Lal Kantha.

The Milco Sales Representative Appreciation Ceremony was held yesterday (21st) at the Monarch Imperial Hotel under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Mr. K. D. Lal Kantha.

Milco (Pvt) Ltd, which could not generate income during previous administrations and was prepared to be sold off, achieved its highest revenue under the current government, even distributing those dividends to dairy farmers and employees. On this occasion, appreciation and recognition were awarded to the sales representatives of Milco who contributed to this effort by achieving their sales targets.

Joining this event, the Minister expressed his views.

“There is a factory in Badalgama. Currently, it is not an asset. We hope to turn it into an asset in the future. If something is an asset, it should appreciate in value. Now, Milco has been turned into a true asset, which is why it holds a special value. The people who stepped in to turn this institution into an asset are the ones gathered here today. Our government extends its respect to all of them.

Protein consumption in our country is somewhat low. Everything purchased through Milco consists of protein. We produce only about 35% to 40% of our milk production ourselves, and we import the rest from outside. We have the desire to increase this value quickly. We are lagging quite far behind in milk production.

We are used to consuming mostly carbohydrates. These days, there are even funny cartoons going around because of talking about these things. Consumption of bread and rice ends up with glucose. Our country needs products that are low in sugar yet have a good taste to satisfy the palate, along with a higher protein percentage. In Sri Lanka, 51% of the population suffers from non-communicable diseases, which is why introducing low-sugar, high-protein products is important.”

The Chairman of Milco (Pvt) Ltd, Mr. Hemajeewa Gotabhaya, and other officials, attended this occasion.
