Arrangements have been made by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Department of Agrarian Development to conduct ‘Aluth Sahal Mangalya’ (New Rice Festival), which is held annually to offer the maiden harvest to the Lord Buddha, on 1st and 2nd of April at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi premises to offer the first portion of the harvest of 2022/23 Maha season.
The Department of Agrarian Development has made arrangements to collect new rice from farmers in 24 places in all 24 districts on today and tomorrow for the New Rice Festival.
Collection of rice in Hambantota district will be held under the patronage of Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture on tomorrow (25) morning at Agrarian Service Centre at Lunama.
‘Aluth Sahal Mangalya’ (New Rice Festival) 2023 will be held on 02nd April at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi premises in Anuradhapura under the patronage of President Ranil Wickramasinghe and with the participation of Mr.Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture, other Ministers, MPs and farmers.
