As a timely solution for illegal human trafficking, which being long standing controversial issue affected both Government of Australia and Sri Lanka, it has been agreed to reach a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries and this was possible due to positive attitude of the new government.
A critical discussion to this effect was held today(12) between Hon. Chamal Rajapaksha, state Minister of Defense and representatives of the Australian Government.
Officials including Major General caring Major General Carig Furini (Commander Joint Task Force, Operation Sovereign Borders) ,Ms Jenny Grant (Curnow –Acting Assistant Secretary , People Smuggling and Human Taraffiking Task , Australian Department Of Foreign Affairs and Trade) ,HE David Holly (Australian High Commissioner To Sri Lanka) , Ms Tara Cavanagh (Minister Counselor Home Affairs), Group Captain Sean Unwin (Defense Adviser), Ms Susan Jones ( Second Secretary) representing the Government of Australia while Admiral Nishantha Ulugatteune of the Sir Lanka Navy representing the Navy and a group of officials including Air Vice Marshal S.K. Pathirana representing the Air Force attended this occasion.
